2008/08/23 - The first race at Valencia’s new street circuit threw up a major surprise finish when race leader Giorgio Pantano ran out of fuel almost within sight of the chequered flag, handing the win to a stunned Vitaly Petrov, who finished just ahead of Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean, with title challenger Bruno Senna failing to take advantage of his rival’s misfortune as he coasted across the line in ninth with an equally empty tank. Valencia (ES), 23rd August 2008. Tiago Geronimi (Eifelland Racing) of Brazil took the flag in a spectacular race on Valencia’s street circuit. The 11th round of Formula BMW Europe was dominated by nail-biting jostling for position from the first to the final lap. The leader of the rankings, Esteban Gutierrez (MX/Josef Kaufmann Racing), kept Geronimi under pressure throughout the race, but the Brazilian ultimately claimed victory ahead of Gutierrez and Marco Wittmann (DE/Josef Kaufmann Racing). 2008/08/22 - Giorgio Pantano has put his Hungaroring disappointments behind him by taking pole in a frenetic qualifying session this afternoon in Valencia, claiming the top spot despite constant pressure from Pastor Maldonado, Vitaly Petrov and Romain Grosjean to stretch out his lead in his championship battle with rival Bruno Senna, who could not qualify higher than eighth.
