Bizarre accident wrecks Senna’s weekend – Chandhok stifled from the start

iSport’s hopes of a strong finish to its Turkish weekend were dashed during the GP2 Series sprint on Sunday morning. Karun Chandhok became trapped behind a faltering car and lost several places as a result. He later spun while trying to recover lost ground and ended the race in 12th position. From 15th on the grid, Bruno Senna stormed through the field and was challenging for fifth place when he struck one of two stray dogs that had found their way onto the circuit. He was unhurt in the subsequent impact, but his car sustained significant damage to its front-right suspension and he had to retire.

“The start was a bit of a disaster. I got off the line well, but I came up behind Adam Carroll and he was clearly in trouble – it sounded as though he was fishing for gears or something, but with other cars passing on both sides it was difficult to get by him. That cost me a few places and I was then stuck behind Javier Villa. I was much quicker than him, but when I tried to pass I nicked the inside kerb a bit too hard and spun. After that it was a bit of a nothing race, really, just trying to work my way back through the midfield.”

“The race was going really well up until the dog incident. I made a good start, kept out of trouble and seized every opportunity that came my way without taking any risks. The car was really good and I knew we could score some useful points.
“I was following Mike Conway quite closely when he suddenly moved to the right. I thought he had a problem so I went to the left… and that’s when I saw the dog for the first time. It ran right, so I went left, but then it turned again, hit my wheel and that was that. I couldn’t believe it.”Fuente: iSport
